What is Prenatal Massage?

Prenatal Massage is a nurturing session that focuses on the specific needs of mothers to be during their pregnancy. The body is rapidly changing as the baby grows and develops and each pregnancy is different. Certain positioning, pillows, bolsters, and special cushions are used to enhance support and maximize comfort. With support from my prenatal cushion, clients are able to lay on their stomach for the first time in months.

I use a wedge pillow to help clients lay in a reclined position on their back. Side-lying is also a popular position to be able to reduce the effects of lower back pain while supporting the abdomen.  Comfort is my priority as we address the special physical and emotional needs during this transformational time.

Benefits

Both mother and baby share in the benefits of massage. Stress and muscle tension melt away, leaving them feeling more balanced and energized. Clients often get relief of nerve and muscle pain in feet, ankles, hips, lower back, shoulders, and neck. Reducing swelling, improving sleep and preparing the body for labor are all benefits of a Prenatal Massage. After a prenatal massage session, you should feel an overall relaxation throughout your entire body.

Is Prenatal Massage for Me?

I do recommend clients consult with their doctors before scheduling a massage session. Prenatal massages are safe during all stages of pregnancy. Clients may want to avoid massage if they are experiencing any dizziness or nausea which can be more prevalent during the first trimester. It is suggested to receive massage every two weeks until the third trimester when you can increase it to weekly sessions.
