Book Review

Looking for a new book to read?

Whitney recommended a book to me a while back called “Rhythms of Change,” by Mary Saunders. I finally read it, and found its perspective on health and wellness to be refreshing and practical!

The book is about Oriental medicine and how small lifestyle changes can make a huge difference in your day to day health and wellness. The book is split into three main parts.

Part One

Saunders explains the underlying principles of Oriental medicine. She takes us through the phases of change our body goes through, and relates them to Earth, Wood, Fire, Metal and Water. For example, the Earth phase is where our bodies learn how to be centered, in the present, and satisfied!

Part Two

After laying down the groundwork, Saunders then gives us practical ways to build a lifestyle that encourages health and wellness! It includes suggestions on what to do for breakfast, tips on how to snack, and exercises for relaxation. Focusing on finding balance in meals, moods, sleep and more, the book remains relevant and interesting.

Part Three

Here, Saunders provides additional information and resources. It gives recipes on different congees, help on how to calculate proteins, and resources on how to find Oriental Medicine providers. While I would have loved to have seen a bit more in this section, the first two were so jam-packed with information that I felt well-informed by the end of it!

All in all, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is looking for an easy to understand and practical look into Oriental Medicine! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
