Insurance FAQ

As a courtesy, we may bill your medical insurance. Your insurance plan is a contract between you and your insurance company; It is your responsibility to know your coverage. You are required to provide correct and updated information regarding your insurance. We cannot guarantee your insurance benefits or the information your insurance company provides.

You are responsible for the payment of co-pays, coinsurance, deductibles and all other procedures or treatment not covered by your insurance plan. You are ultimately responsible for the payment of provided care and treatment.

We base your treatment on your individual needs and health goals, not insurance coverage. Some plans have a limited amount of visits per calendar year and may not cover cupping or other modalities. Services provided and rendered are based on the individual patient and their needs the day of treatment. Maintenance wellness is typically not covered by insurance. For wellness, we recommend monthly maintenance.

If this seems overwhelming, we have a time of service system in place for this reason. We strive to provide you with the best care possible to help you reach your health goals. We don’t want insurance billing issues or coverage to stand in the way of this.

Frequently Asked Questions

Medical bills can be frustrating. Below we have answered some frequently asked questions about insurance.

What charges are included in my statement?

We have a standard charge per procedure code that we bill your insurance company based on acupuncture the services rendered during your treatment. The insurance company determines the amount owed based on your individual insurance plan. Sometimes your patient responsibility is a copay, remaining deductible amount, coinsurance or non-covered services. This information is outlined in the Explanation of Benefits (EOB) provided by your insurance company.

I thought my insurance covered acupuncture. Why do I have a balance?

Balances are based on patient responsibility outlined in the Explanation of Benefits (EOB) received from your insurance company. This could include co-pays, coinsurance, deductibles, and all other procedures or treatment not covered by your insurance plan. When you receive your EOB from your insurance company, this is your opportunity to review it. If there are any questions from EOB, please call your insurance company. If there are any questions about the services rendered during your treatment, please contact our office.

How quickly will you let me know if I have a balance?

Our office notifies patients of a balance as soon as we receive the EOB from your insurance. If we do not see you in person, then we send one paper statement. We also email statements regularly. If we have not heard back, then we will try to contact you via phone. We submit insurance claims weekly. If you haven’t received a statement from us, we are waiting to hear back from your insurance company. Please contact them directly with any questions.

Can I pay online?

Yes! We are happy to send an invoice via Square to your email so that you can pay bills online. We can also take payment over the phone or through the mail.

Does health insurance cover Acupuncture?

Many patients have insurance benefits that cover Acupuncture. It will depend on your individual plan if you have coverage. Not all conditions are covered. Each insurance company plan covers different sets of ailments. For billing health insurance, acupuncture must be medically necessary. For example, some insurance companies cover anxiety or allergies while others do not.

How do I know if my insurance plan covers Acupuncture?

For your convenience, we will check your insurance benefits; however, we recommend that you also contact your insurance company. We do our best to find out your coverage but it is your responsibility to understand what your plan covers. In some cases, insurance companies do provide the wrong information to the clinic. Please call to make sure your plan covers acupuncture services and our clinic.
